Conference Theme:
Global Climate Response

The 27th Annual TSMUN Conference presents its theme ‘Global Climate Response’ to encourage students to fight against climate change in different ways through committees such as the First General Assembly, the International Atomic Energy Association, the Human Rights Council, and the Security Council. Each of these committees are meeting on diverse topics that students will have the opportunity to address climate change through agricultural sustainability, cybersecurity, disarmament and non-proliferation, and natural disaster relief programs by utilizing existing UN structures or even the creation of new structures. Students will be encouraged to address challenges such as the human right to a healthy and sustainable environment and the contradictions that may arise.

The purpose of this theme is to show students the severity of global climate change, especially overseas, and to inspire young students to become more ecologically aware and acknowledge critical importance in order for goals to be met, hope to be sustained, and meaningful compromise to be reached.

UN Climate Change
and COP27
According to the Provisional State of the Global Climate 2022, greenhouse gasses are expected to continue increasing throughout the year, while land temperatures are give or take 1.2°C higher than the pre-industrial baseline. Natural disasters are becoming more frequent and more devastating, however one-third of the global population does not have proper natural disaster prediction services, including 60 percent of Africa. With the recent session of the COP27, it is clear that immediate international action is what is required to mitigate climate change and its effects on human life, and in the words of UN Secretary-General António Guterres:

“The world is watching and has a simple message to all of us: stand and deliver. Deliver the kind of meaningful climate action that people and planet so desperately need.”
